Collaborative workshops for the general public

Rain relay forests and sponge soils

A workshop to understand the role of Nature in the water cycle and how we can work with Nature to mitigate impacts from floods and droughts.

During this two-hour workshop, in a group of 3 to 6 people, you will:
1. Discover the role of vegetation, and mainly forests, as rain relays;
2. Learn (or relearn) how clouds and precipitation form;
3. Follow rainwater after it reaches the ground and reflect on the effect of different types of land surfaces on water flow;
4. Discover four types of wetlands and the benefits they bring to humans and biodiversity in general;
5. Discover the principles of regenerative hydrology and water cycle regeneration;
6. Think about solutions for applying these principles to mitigate the effects of droughts and floods.

Forests and low clouds: natural air conditioners

Following on from the workshop “Rain relay forests and sponge soils,” a workshop to understand how water moves energy between the ground and the atmosphere, thereby redistributing heat, and how vegetation influences local temperatures.

During this two-hour workshop, in groups of 3 to 6 people, you will:

1. Discover the role of water in energy exchanges between the soil and the atmosphere;
2. Discover the effect of different soil types and plant transpiration on local temperatures;
3. Gain insight into the complexity of the formation and composition of several categories of clouds and their impact on the Earth’s global temperature;
4. Think about solutions for working with vegetation to influence local temperatures.
